Police: Mahwah DPW Worker Awaiting Trial In Child Sex Assault Case Was DWI In Township Truck
A Mahwah municipal employee who’s been free on bail on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl was busted for DWI while driving a township truck in Hawthorne, authorities confirmed. Whether this will cost Brian Potter, 43, his freedom before trial had yet to be determined. One of the stipulations of his bail release was that Potter refrain from consuming drugs or alcohol. Oradell Police Officer Charged With Stealing Prescription Meds From Public Drop Box
An Oradell police officer stole prescription medications from a secure drop box designed for the public to safely dispose of drugs, authorities charged. Jeffrey Peters, 41, of Hawthorne “gained access on several occasions and removed prescription narcotics” from the locked drop box in the police department lobby, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Tuesday. Peters, who joined the department in 2016, was suspended with pay pending the outcome of the charges, the prosecutor said. Fire Destroys Abandoned Paterson Eastside Home
At least one firefighter was injured when a vacant home on Paterson's east side went up in flames Friday morning. The four-alarm blaze broke out around 9 a.m. in the abandoned, boarded-up building on Fair Street near Straight Street. Pickup Rolls In Route 208 Crash
A driver was hospitalized as a precaution after his pickup truck rolled Monday on Route 208 in Hawthorne. The pickup, which rolled after contacting another vehicle, was towed following the crash between Utter and Van Winkle avenues on the northbound side. The driver made it out under his own steam before members of the Hawthorne Volunteer Ambulance Corps put him in a neck brace and took him to a nearby hospital. A dump truck and equipment trailer owned by a Wayne landscaping company barreled down an embankment and crashed into a home in Hawthorne on Monday. The single-axle crew cab truck, owned by Canete Landscaping, was headed down Hillcrest Avenue around 5 p.m. when the driver said the brakes failed, responders said.
