These NJ Police Departments Are Being Paid To Crack Down On Distracted Drivers In $1M Campaign New Jersey is cracking down on distracted drivers in a major way — and local police departments are getting paid to do it. Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Highway Traffic Safety (HTS) on Monday, April 1, launched a statewide campaign called “Put the Phone Away or Pay,” running through April 30.  The initiative combines high-visibility enforcement with a public awareness campaign targeting texting and other phone-related distractions behind the wheel. Somerset Man Brings Loaded Gun To NY Airport: TSA A Somerset man was detained at an airport in Syracuse after he tried to bring a loaded gun through security, the Transportation Security Association said. The man's 9mm caliber handgun was loaded with 17 bullets, including one in the chamber, the TSA said. The gun was in his carry-on bag, the TSA said. Trenton Pharmacy Owner, Accounting Professor Who Evaded $1.25M In Taxes Convicted: Feds A Trenton pharmacy owner was convicted of evading federal income taxes and filing false tax returns, authorities said. Gordian Ndubizu, 69, of Princeton Junction, was found guilty on Thursday, Aug. 15 of four counts of tax evasion and four counts of filing false tax returns, New Jersey's U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said in a news release. The jury deliberated for about two hours following the four-day trial in federal court. 'Hey You Down There, Break It Up': Elizabeth PD Drones Will Shadow Social Distancing Violators WATCH: Drones will be flying around the city of Elizabeth warning citizens to follow Gov. Phil Murphy's social distancing directives or face fines of up to $1,000, Mayor Chris Bollwage said. Elizabeth police have been using drones since 2018, but they've gotten five newer models with voice capabilities, Bollwage said Tuesday. The drones will fly around the city with an automated message from the mayor telling people to "stop gathering, disperse and go home," he said. "Summonses have and will continue to be issued to those found in violation," Bollwage said. "You have been advised."
