Former Jersey Shore Mayor Sentenced For Taking Money From Parking Meters, Government Auctions
A former mayor of Ocean Gate will spend time in state prison for pocketing money from government auctions, parking meter funds, and scrap metal sales, authorities said.
Paul Kennedy, 68, of Ocean Gate, was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 26 to three years in prison, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced. Kennedy pleaded guilty on Friday, Sept. 22 to pattern of official misconduct. As part of his plea deal, Kennedy is banned from holding public office or employment.

A maintenance man at a Garfield garden apartment complex scammed hopeful renters out of $14,000 by posting bogus listings on Facebook, showing them empty units he claimed he owned and then collecting deposits from them, authorities charged.
John K. DelValle, a 48-year-old bodybuilder from Hackensack, made it all appear genuine by having the victims sign worthless rental agreements, police said.
Then he handed them the master keys that he'd been given for work.

Garfield police pulled a clever sting to capture a Dominican national who they said pulled a knife on a 15-year-old boy and robbed him of a bicycle that the youngster had arranged to sell him through Facebook.
Cristopher Rosario, 18, of Bloomfield, met the boy in the parking lot of the Walmart on Passaic Street, then threatened him with a silver knife before fleeing on the bicycle towards Passaic shortly after 8:30 p.m. last Thursday, June 1, Capt. Mario Pozo said.
The youngster had gone there after Rosario agreed on Facebook Marketplace to buy the bike for $850, the captain said.

COVID Price Gouging Prompts 3,000 NJ Complaints, 500 AG Warnings, 90 Subpoenas
New Jersey authorities are continuing an ongoing crackdown on price gougers during the coronavirus pandemic.
The state Division of Consumer Affairs has issued at least 514 cease-and-desist letters and 89 subpoenas to businesses reported to have violated laws during the pandemic, state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said Wednesday.
The state has so far received 2,978 complaints involving 1,800 businesses related to the COVID-19 emergency, Grewal said.

Hamilton PD: Trenton Pair Lifted $380K In Landscaping Gear, Sold Stolen Mowers On Facebook
A pair of thieves from Trenton stockpiled more than $380,000 worth of stolen landscaping equipment during the past year before selling top-of-the-line mowers on Facebook, authorities said.
Clint Riley, 39 and Kevin Cedeno-Ruiz, 24, hit several storage yards, lifting an assortment of leaf blowers, lawnmowers, edgers and weed-whackers, Hamilton police said in a release.
They then sold high-priced industrial lawn mowers -- eXmark, Toro and Bobcat, among other models -- for up to $30,000 apiece, they said.
