Charles Bierbauer Dies, Former CNN Anchor, White House Correspondent
Charles Bierbauer, the steady CNN voice from the Pentagon to the White House who later built a journalism powerhouse at the University of South Carolina, has died. He was age 83. Bierbauer’s death at his Spruce Pine, North Carolina, residence on Friday, Aug. 29, came as he enjoyed retirement, a university spokesperson said. Mark Knoller, the longtime CBS News correspondent and a mainstay of the White House press corps, has died. The 73-year-old Knoller's death came in Washington, DC, on Saturday, Aug. 30, after a period of declining health. CBS News confirmed his death and noted that he had been battling diabetes for years.
