The shooting took place at about 3 a.m. on Sunday, March, 3 at 300 Spring Valley Road, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.
Initial investigation revealed that members of the Old Bridge Police Department were called on a report of a disturbance, Ciccone said.
Police found a man stabbing a woman, Ciccone said.
"In response, officers shot at and struck the individual," she said.
He name had not been released.
He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and being treated for his injuries Sunday.
The shooting is currently under investigation.
This is an active and ongoing investigation.
