Hurricane Oscar Rapidly Forms In Atlantic With Stronger Winds Than Expected
It's been a busy day in the tropics. Just hours after Nadine was upgraded to a tropical storm early Saturday morning, Oct. 19, a brand-new hurricane burst onto the scene. Oscar, is now near the Bahamas after starting off just north of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean, has been moving westward during the week, and escalated quickly on Saturday, before becoming a Category 1 hurricane in the afternoon. $7.5M In Back Wages Paid To 865 Utility Workers Who Restored Power In NJ After Tropical Storm
The 865 utility workers who restored outages in New Jersey following Tropical Storm Isaias in August 2020 will be getting $7.5 million in back wages, state officials said. NJDOL Division of Wage and Hour Compliance investigators found that workers deployed by Pike Electric Inc. of Mount Airy, N.C., were paid less than the rate required by the New Jersey Prevailing Wage Act during the recovery efforts. First Named Storm Of 2024 Hurricane Season Forms: Meet Alberto
What could be one of the most active hurricane seasons ever now has its first named storm. Tropical Storm Alberto formed late Wednesday morning, June 19 as it moved across the western Gulf of Mexico. Heavy rain, coastal flooding, and gusty winds are forecast along the coasts of Texas and northeastern Mexico through Thursday, June 20. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued in those areas.
