Tacks, Tire Spikes Placed On Dirt Trail In NJ: Police Hundreds of tacks and tire spikes were placed on a dirt trail in Verona, authorities announced this week. The tacks and tire spokes were deliberately spread along the dirt trail in the wooded area behind Brookdale Avenue School and were first reported on Tuesday, Sept. 2, Verona police said. Hundreds of spikes have been removed by Verona police and the Verona Department of Public Works, police said. Several bicycles were damaged, police said. Speed Factor In 20-Year-Old Motorcyclist's Deadly Crash With Bicycle In Manchester, Cops Say A 20-year-old motorcyclist from Manchester Township was killed in a crash with a bicyclist at a busy Ocean County intersection, local police said. The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, at the intersection of State Highway 37 and Commonwealth Boulevard, according to the Manchester Township Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a gray bicycle missing its front wheel and fork lying in the intersection, and a black 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 500 motorcycle on its side in the westbound lanes with its front wheel turned east. NJ's Michele Parkins, Tireless Advocate For Kids, ID'd As Bicyclist Struck, Killed Michele Parkins, a 46-year-old Denville resident and founder of Great Kids Place, was killed on Thursday, July 17, after she was hit by a car while riding her bike, authorities said.  The crash occurred on Old Boonton Road near Bush Road, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said. Parkins was transported to St. Clare’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said. Parkins was all about helping others, earning her Master's degree in occupational therapy from Seton Hall in 2009, according to her obituary from the Norman Dean Funeral Home website. Man Had 5-6 Beers, Drank While Driving In NJ Crash That Killed NHL Star, Brother: Affidavit A Woodstown man reportedly admitted to having about a half-dozen beers before the crash that killed Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, arrest records said. Sean Higgins, 43, was facing several charges including two counts of assault by auto, according to court records. He was accused of striking the NHL star and his brother while they were riding bicycles in Oldmans Township on Thursday, Aug. 29. Investigators said the Gaudreaus were on bikes close to the fog line on the north side of County Route 551. Higgins tried to pass a car and SUV while also traveling north in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee. …

Driver Wanted After Pedestrian Killed In Central Jersey Hit-And-Run Crash Police were looking for the driver who killed a pedestrian in Shrewsbury, authorities said. The 23-year-old Toms River man died in the hit-and-run crash on Monday, Aug. 5, a Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson said on Friday, Aug. 16. Shrewsbury police responded to a report of an unresponsive person near the intersection of Shrewsbury and Sycamore avenues just after 2:45 a.m. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team was assisting in the investigation. This was the first of four deadly crashes in Monmouth County so …
