'Black Tax' Extortion, Naked Assaults: HS Football Players, Coach Charged In Hazing
A so-called "Black tax," a makeshift "gas chamber," and repeated sexual humiliation inside a high school football locker room have led to criminal charges against three students and a former teacher and assistant football coach, prosecutors announced on Friday, Oct. 9.

A 35-year-old Houston man was arrested and charged with stealing $250,000 in equipment from a business in Lakewood, authorities announced Friday, Oct. 9.
On Sunday, June 14, officers responded to a business and discovered the front glass doors had been shattered, Lakewood police said. The owner reported that approximately $250,000 worth of equipment had been stolen, police said.

A Newark man climbed through his ex-girlfriend's kitchen window in Hackensack, grabbed her by the neck and squeezed until she became dizzy, authorities said.
Ruben P. Vera, 33, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 8, more than seven months after the alleged attack, Hackensack Police Detective Captain Darrin DeWitt said.
