Troopers responded to Millstone Park in Monmouth County on Friday, Feb. 21, at 4:46 p.m. after receiving a report of a dog stuck on the ice, Sgt. Charles Marchan of the New Jersey State Police said.
Troopers and the Millstone Fire Department were able to rescue the dog, but as they examined the scene, they noticed footprints leading onto the lake, a jacket and hat near the ice, and a fresh break in the surface, officials said.
An investigation revealed that Michael Rosen, 78, of Millstone, had taken his two dogs for a walk and never returned, police said.
A search of the area and water was conducted Friday evening with no results. The search was suspended overnight due to water conditions and resumed Saturday morning, officials said.
During the search, Rosen’s body was recovered from the water, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
