The incident happened on Thursday, Sept. 12 around 5:45 a.m., when a truck crashed on the ramp from Interstate 287 East to Interstate 95 North in Rye, according to the New York State Thruway Authority. Traffic is being diverted from a busy Westchester intersection due to a fallen electrical pole felled by a truck. A fallen telephone pole is causing authorities to divert traffic from a busy main road in Northern Westchester. South Bedford Road (Route 172) in Mount Kisco was closed to traffic on Tuesday, May 16 because of low-hanging power lines caused by the fallen pole, Westchester County Police announced around 4 p.m. The pole fell in the area of the Northern Westchester Professional Park located at 103-105 South Bedford Road. Concerns about the structural integrity of two overpasses in a Westchester County city are prompting city officials to immediately reroute traffic because of the danger they pose to residents. The closure was between Mahopac Avenue in Somers and Windsor Road in Yorktown following the 7:20 a.m. crash. Tragic Mianus Bridge Collapse Along I-95 Marks 35th Anniversary
On this day in 1983, a part of the Mianus River Bridge collapsed. Three people were killed and three others were seriously injured. At about 1:30 a.m., on June 28, 1983, a 100-foot span of Interstate 95 in Greenwich collapsed into the Mianus River in one of the most infamous American bridge disasters of the 20th century.
