Former HS Baseball Coach Who Led Team To State Championship Dies: From Northern Westchester A former high school varsity baseball coach from Northern Westchester who led his team to a state championship is being remembered for his ability to connect with his players.  Amleto “Mel” Giarolo of Croton-on-Hudson died on Saturday, April 21 at the age of 88 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and renal cancer, according to his obituary.  Born in Tarrytown in 1934, Giarolo spent his life following his passion for the game of baseball. Northern Westchester Native Gavin MacLeod, ‘Mary Tyler Moore,’ ‘Love Boat’ Actor, Dies Native NewYorker Gavin MacLeod, a popular actor on two of the biggest television hit shows of the 1970s and '80s, has died. MacLeod, who was born in Northern Westchester County, in Mount Kisco, as Allan George See and raised in Pleasantville, was age 90.  He died at his home in Palm Desert, California, after having recent health issues, his family said. MacLeod became nationally known for his role as news writer Murray Slaughter of Minneapolis TV station WJM on CBS-TV's "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in the early to mid-1970s. Covid-19: SUNY, CUNY To Require Vaccinations For All Students Before Returning To Campus New York State colleges and universities will require COVID-19 vaccinations for students planning to take part in in-person classes in the fall, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced. During a COVID-19 briefing in Manhattan on Monday, May 10, Cuomo issued a vaccine mandate stating that all CUNY and SUNY students will need to be vaccinated before the fall as the state pushes to have all eligible adults take the vaccine.
