Somers Firefighters Battle Car Blaze, Burning Wires Firefighters battled both a car blaze and downed burning wires that began at nearly the same time during a busy morning in Northern Westchester.  The incidents happened on Wednesday, April 3 just before 9 a.m., when firefighters in Somers responded to downed burning wires on Route 202 near Todd Road while also being called to the scene of a car blaze in a parking lot on Route 6.  According to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department, the car blaze was successfully put out with  1,000 gallons of water. Electrical Fire At High-Rise Westchester Apartment Forces Hundreds To Evacuate Hundreds of Westchester residents were forced to evacuate a 19-story high rise apartment building in Yonkers when a fire broke out, officials said. A fire broke out at a Central Park Avenue apartment complex shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Flynn said. The fire forced approximately 250 units to be cleared after flames broke out in the building. 45 Firefighters Battle Blaze At House In Westchester A one-alarm house fire that broke out in Westchester required the work of 45 firefighters to safely extinguish. Officials at the Yonkers Fire Department say the blaze, which occurred at a private residence at 10 Aldrich Street around 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, was caused by an electrical malfunction. Con Edison also responded to the scene. Officials say that the fire was under control by around 10:40 a.m. with all fire companies back in service by 12 p.m. No firefighter or civilian injuries have been reported, and the home’s electrical supply is still out of service.

Man Killed After Coming Into Contact With Power Lines In Cortlandt A 56-year-old man was killed after coming into contact with power lines in Northern Westchester, state police said. Troopers were dispatched to Gallows Hill Road in Cortlandt around noon on Sunday, April 28 for a report of a man fallen out of a tree.  An investigation found Carlos M. Diaz, 56, of Peekskill, was employed by the homeowner for the purpose of tree trimming, and came into contact with the overhead power lines, according to police. The fire, at 85 Concord Drive, started around 1:30 p.m. on the outside of the home, said officials with the Mahopac Falls Fire Department.
