YORKTOWN, N.Y. — The Shrub Oak Pirates split a doubleheader on Sunday with the Westchester Mets in the Men's Senior Baseball League playoffs as the teams began the best-of-three finals.

Shrub Oak won the opener, 6-2, as pitcher John Boro threw a complete game, and Westchester rallied in the second game with four runs in the seventh inning to win 7-4.

The teams are tied at a game apiece, and the deciding game is set for Sunday, at 9 a.m. at Lakeland High School.

Boro threw six shutout innings in the opener, finishing with six hits, four strikeouts and four walks. Paul Gornie, Jim Massi, Steve DiNucci and Tony Sottile drove in runs in the top of the seventh, and break open what was a 2-0 game with four more runs. The Pirates' bullpen held off a late rally by the Mets for the final margin.

In the second game, a tight game was broken open with four Pirates errors, leading to four runs in the top of the seventh, leading to the 7-4 margin of victory. Three Mets batters reached base on consecutive errors, setting the stage for Kenny Fox's two-RBI double that gave Westchester the lead.
