The Empire State Huskies 16U softball team won the Memorial Day Classic and Summer Icebreaker on consecutive weeks to qualify for the national tournament in either Salisbury, Md. or Orlando, Fla. The Huskies went 5-1 in each tournament, outscoring their opponents, 105-34, in the 12 games.
The team is comprised of girls from Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. Some of the players are Hendrick Hudson's Megan Jahoda, Julie Gaspar and Cassidy Boyle, Dobbs Ferry's Alex Cialini, Yorktowns Dominique Bisaccia and Leanne Farmer, and John Jay Cross River Middle School's Theresa Swertfager.
