YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – A funeral will be held in Yorktown Friday for the former Yorktown Heights resident who was reportedly shot and killed April 28 in New Orleans.
New Orleans police told the Times-Picayune newspaper that Cahill was shot by a homeowner after Cahill reportedly ran into the home at about 2:15 p.m. on April 28. The New Orleans Coroner’s Office later confirmed with the Times-Picayune that Cahill was dead. Cahill, 40, was “on tour with Boulder-area jam and bluegrass band Leftover Salmon,” according to the Daily Camera.
The group’s manager, John Joy, released a statement to the Daily Camera.
“Joe was an essential part of the Leftover Salmon team,” Joy wrote, according to a story from the Daily Camera. “He was a hard worker and loved by all. We are all shocked and saddened to learn of his tragic passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Cahill family, his friends and the music community that Joe was such a big part of. He will be greatly missed.”
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Saint Patrick’s Stone Church, 188 Church Place, Yorktown Heights, representatives with Saint Patrick’s confirmed Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe Cahill Memorial Music Award Fund, c/o Wells Fargo, 1937 Commerce St., Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
