Police observed the woman, Maryann Sharkey, 42, on the Taconic State Parkway Jan. 13 at about 11:16 p.m. following another vehicle too closely and failing to stay in the traffic lane. After a traffic stop, police found that Sharkey had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle and was driving while intoxicated. She was arrested and charged with DWI and driving with an open container, as well as the traffic infractions.

A Datamaster breath test at police headquarters led to the additional charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated. Sharkey was released on her own recognizance to a family member and is scheduled to answer the charges in Yorktown Court on Feb. 14 at 6 p.m.
