Yorktown Businesses Prepare for Holiday Shopping

YORKTOWN, N.Y. — This holiday season Yorktown businesses are gearing up for a hopeful influx of shoppers. From delectable apple pies to stocking stuffers, residents don’t have to leave the confines of the Yorktown zip code to find their presents.

For those looking to get all their holiday shopping done in one place, the Jefferson Valley Mall will be opening at 4 a.m. Friday.

Yorktown Jewelers is using the holiday as a day to jump-start business, with a grand opening beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday, filled with catering, music and entertainment. The day will also be a day of giving back, as the store will donate 20 percent on its proceeds collected that day towards the local organization, “Stephanie’s Mission.”

Wishes Boutique didn’t wait until Black Friday to begin its holiday sales, explained co-owner Debbie Zapakin.

“We had our open house last weekend and it was a big success,” Zapakin said. “For black Friday, we don’t usually do anything special, because we always have our annual open house before Thanksgiving.”

Zapakin also explained that the store will be hosting a sale for its five-year anniversary soon, so they are planning to offer sales throughout the season, not just on Friday. The local business owner said she’s also hopeful wide-spread initiatives will help to keep shopping local.

“We’re hoping that ‘small business Saturday’ will be a good day and that people will decide to stay in town and shop locally,” she said.
