CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Yorktown man was charged with two counts of aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor, after he allegedly trespassed and threatened a Putnam Valley resident, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reported that 23-year-old Michael J. Palumbo was arrested on Jan. 2. Police said a woman reported that she arrived to her home on Gilbert Land in Putnam Valley to find Palumbo trying to gain entry into her home. The woman said Palumbo refused to leave the home and continued to look inside the windows of the house before fleeing the scene.
Police also said Palumbo allegedly made phone calls to the woman threatening to kill her and another person in the home. When a deputy arrived at the home, Palumbo again telephoned the home, police said. The deputy then directed Palumbo to turn himself in to the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. Palumbo was apprehended in front of his home by a Yorktown police officer a short time later and returned to the Putnam county line to be turned over to the deputy, police said.
Palumbo was arrested for two counts of aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor, and trespass, a violation. He was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility. If he is found guilty of the charges, Palumbo could face up to a year in jail and a fine of $1,000 for each charge.
