Lakeland/Panas Girls Lax Duo Named All-America

Anna Jeszeck was having lunch in school when she received a text from Lakeland/Panas girls’ lacrosse coach Sharon Sarsen. The message made Jeszeck stop immediately and leave the lunch room, in search of teammate Melissa Hanson.

Jeszeck, a Walter Panas senior, had just learned from Sarsen that she was named a high school all-America. “She texted me congratulating Melissa and I,” said Jeszeck, who will attend the University of Richmond next fall and play lacrosse. “I was really excited so I ran to Melissa’s classroom and gave her a big hug.”

Jeszeck led Lakeland/Panas in scoring and was instrumental in the Rebels winning a fifth consecutive sectional title and and making a second straight trip to the state final four. Jeszeck was more excited for Hanson because the defender received the ultimate recognition. “As a defender, you’re not expected to get it, but Melissa deserves it,” Jeszeck said. “This is awesome because Melissa and I have been friends since kindergarten and we have played every sport together. It’s great, especially being senior captains.”

Ironically, the best friends will be playing against each other next year. Hanson will play at Duquesne and might be called upon to defend against Jeszeck when the teams play.
