Continuing Tradition, Yorktown Lions Make Donations to Local Pantries

YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- The holiday season is often a time of tradition, and the Yorktown Lions are continuing their own tradition of giving.

The Yorktown Lions Club has announced they have donated $8,000 to four local food banks serving the Yorktown Community. Lions' Vice President Carl Anderson said that Yorktown Community Help, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown and the Veteran's Hospital Supportive Housing Food Pantry each received a donation in the amount of $2,000 from the Lion's Club.

Anderson said help needs to be given to the food banks at times beyond just the holiday season, as there is always a need.

“The Food Banks in the Yorktown area have seen a dramatic increase in demand over the last few years," Anderson said.

Anderson also commended another Yorktown organization, the Yorktown Congress of Teachers, for their "Tip A Teacher Night," which raised $2,600 for the Yorktown Help Community food pantry.
