Yorktown Advocates Bring Speaker to Unite Youth

YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- Jessica D’Amato remembers attending concerts and seeing To Write Love on Her Arms set up, and this Saturday they are bringing their message to Yorktown.

“It’s a specific non-profit that really touched my heart,” she said. “I feel like they’re not trying to preach or lecture, it’s all about sharing experiences with your peers and other young people.”

A speaker from To Write Love on Her Arms will be the main focus on Saturday, as D’Amato’s group, Young Yorktown Advocates United, holds their kick-off event. D’Amato said the event will also feature vendors, live bands and different attractions for the audience.

In June, YYAU held a fundraiser at Murphy’s to get enough money to bring the speaker from To Write Love on Her Arms, Denny Kolsch, to Yorktown. The event on Saturday will take place at the Jack DeVito Memorial Gazebo from 12 to 4 p.m.

“After all the grief we’ve been through the past six years, they’ll send a message that we can all come together because everyone here has been dealing with the same things,” D'Amato said. “It’s something that’s perfect for Yorktown.”
