YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- Jessica DAmato remembers attending concerts and seeing To Write Love on Her Arms set up, and this Saturday they are bringing their message to Yorktown.
Its a specific non-profit that really touched my heart, she said. I feel like theyre not trying to preach or lecture, its all about sharing experiences with your peers and other young people.
A speaker from To Write Love on Her Arms will be the main focus on Saturday, as DAmatos group, Young Yorktown Advocates United, holds their kick-off event. DAmato said the event will also feature vendors, live bands and different attractions for the audience.
In June, YYAU held a fundraiser at Murphys to get enough money to bring the speaker from To Write Love on Her Arms, Denny Kolsch, to Yorktown. The event on Saturday will take place at the Jack DeVito Memorial Gazebo from 12 to 4 p.m.
After all the grief weve been through the past six years, theyll send a message that we can all come together because everyone here has been dealing with the same things, D'Amato said. Its something thats perfect for Yorktown.
