There will be parking restrictions on Yonkers for several weeks as the Engineering Department begins preparing for an extensive road resurfacing project in the area.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced that beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 14, crews have begun preparing for the project, which will take place between Elm Street and Dunwoody Street.

The project is expected to kick off in earnest on Monday, Aug. 20 and last through the end of October.

Initial work will include the altering of catch basins and manholes in the area, as well as a ramp reconstruction. Resurfacing is expected to begin at 8 p.m. each night and conclude at 6 a.m. in the morning, Sunday through Thursday. Officials noted that all work is weather dependent.

During the project, resident parking in the designated work jones will be prohibited overnight as crews work on the resurfacing. Any illegally parked vehicles will be towed.

“This resurfacing project will greatly enhance Yonkers Avenue,” Spano said.  “Although road work can often hamper our daily routine, all of our City agencies, along with the New York State Department of Transportation, are working extremely hard to limit the inconveniences to our residents.  We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time.”
