Miriam Toohey-Garabrant, age 93, passed on November 30, 2023. She was born and raised in Yonkers, and, when she married, she moved to Northern New Jersey to raise a family. She was predeceased by long-time partner James Fanning and her sister Maureen Conte Stark of Sarasota, FL. She was also predeceased by her mother, Miriam, and father, James Christopher Toohey, and brother, Brendan Toohey—all of Yonkers. Survivors include her brother, Brian of Rye, daughters, Joyce “JT” Garabrant of Wesley Chapel, FL and Dale Zale (Terry) of Palm Harbor, FL and two granddaugh…

As a new round of storms with gusty winds approaches, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the region. It was issued at around 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 3 and lasts until 8 p.m. Monday for the counties in New York and northern New Jersey shown in yellow in the image above.. Line Of Storms, Some Severe, Sweeping Through Region
A line of thunderstorms, some severe, is sweeping through the region from west to east. Storm activity first began in northern New Jersey at around 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 16. As of around 2:30 p.m., most of the more powerful storms have been in areas farthest south, with showers falling throughout much of the entire region. (See the satellite image above.) A large-scale and massive winter storm moving across the country will bring a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain that is expected to cause hazardous driving conditions followed by icy conditions over the weekend after a drop in temperatures. Storm Bringing Wintry Mix Will Drop Up To A Foot Of Snow In Parts Of Northeast
Most of the region will see rain and sleet from a wintry storm that will sweep through the region over the weekend, but parts of the Northeast could see up to a half-foot to a foot of snow. With a sustained wind strength of 60 miles per hour, Tropical Storm Henri made landfall early Sunday afternoon, Aug. 22. Landfall happened at around 12:45 p.m. Sunday in Westerly, Rhode Island, which is located on the southwestern shoreline of Washington County, about 12 miles east of Mystic Seaport, in New London County, Connecticut. A review of mail-forwarding requests is revealing where New York City residents moved to after the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak began. The United States Post Office received double the monthly average of mail-forwarding requests from New York City in March with 56,000, with that number increasing to 81,000 in April, according to The New York Times. Toll Prices Increase Along These NY Bridges, Tunnels
Traveling to and from New York City has gotten more expensive. Tolls on bridges and tunnels connecting New York City to northern New Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island went up this weekend, beginning on Sunday, Jan. 5. Toll increases will impact drivers using the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge, and Outerbridge Crossing. Cash tolls were also increased to $16 on Port Authority bridges and tunnels. Passengers using E-Z Pass will be charged $13.75 during peak hours and $11.75 during off-peak hours, both a $1.25 increase.
