A police department in Westchester is warning residents to be on the lookout for potential scammers claiming to be associated with local construction work. $3.4M Scheme: Ex-Controller Admits To Embezzling Family-Owned Northern Westchester Business
A senior member of a family-owned company has admitted to embezzling more than $3.4 million from the business over five years. According to court filings released on Thursday, Oct. 10, John Hickey, age 34, created false invoices that appeared to be from entities with which the Northern Westchester-based corporations did business from February 2018 to November 2023. Police issued an alert to Westchester County residents about a common scam where individuals pose as door-to-door salespeople. Recall Issued For 26K Cooktops Over Burn, Fire Hazards
A series of Whirlpool, KitchenAid and JennAir brand glass cooktops have been recalled due to burn and fire hazard issues, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Issued on Wednesday, Aug. 28, the recall alert states that certain models of glass cooktops with touch controls can turn on by themselves and pose burn and fire hazards. These cooktops were sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy and other home improvement and home appliance and other stores from March 2017 through Aug. 2019 and were priced between $1,150 and $2,500. Contractor From Yonkers Charged With Scamming Customers
Two contractors from Westchester and one from Dutchess have been charged after police say they scammed numerous customers in Greenwich. Greenwich Police say they arrested Weber Marin, 34, of White Plains, Ilir Cubi, 41, of Yonkers and Joseph Monserrate, 31, of Poughkeepsie on Sunday, June 9 after receiving complaints made by customers about being scammed. Westchester will enjoy a second Lowe's Home Improvement store by early next year, according to the developer. The county's other Lowe's store is in Ridge Hill Shopping Center in Yonkers.
