The crash happened around 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, when a 64-year-old driver from Yonkers in a 2023 Nissan was traveling westbound on the Exit 12 ramp to Palisades Center Drive, according to Clarkstown Police Detective Norman Peters.
The driver was going too fast around a bend, causing him to lose control, cross the intersection, and slam into a tree. The impact flipped the vehicle, which came to rest in a parking lot, Peters said.
The driver told police he became momentarily distracted before losing control. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured, according to Peters.
Clarkstown Police, along with West Nyack Fire Department, Rockland Paramedics, and Congers Valley Cottage Ambulance Corps, arrived at the scene and safely removed the driver from the overturned car while providing on-site medical treatment.
Authorities issued the driver a summons for speeding, Peters said.
