State Sen. George Latimer (D-Rye) and Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer (D-Yonkers) will host a “Community Budget Forum” from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Grinton I. Will Library at 1500 Central Park Ave. The goal, the legislators said, is to assess the priorities and impacts of the proposed budget on residents, communities, organizations and elected officials in Yonkers.
The $142.6 billion budget, submitted Jan. 2 by the governor, represents a 5.3 percent increase over last year's.
Among the budget's proposals is a Stable Rate Pension Contribution Option for municipalities, which would allow local governments and school districts to "lock in" a lower pension rate for a period of time approved by the comptroller and Teachers' Retirement System.
Also included in the budget is a five-year, $47.4 billion capital plan for repairs to properties damaged by Hurricane Sandy, highway and bridge work and parks and environmental projects, among other commitments.
Yonkers residents are invited to testify on their concerns regarding the impact of the Governor’s proposed budget and each will have up to four minutes to speak. No RSVP is required.
Written testimony can also be submitted ahead of time or after the event to Latimer@NYSenate.gov or MayerS@assembly.state.ny.us.
