YPD personnel immediately had both dogs removed to the Yonkers Animal Shelter for subsequent care and treatment.
Fourth Precinct Police Officer William Pataky initiated an investigation with SPCA Chief Ernest Lungaro into the origin and ownership of the two dogs, and they subsequently developed a suspect who was responsible for the care of the animals. An exam of the dogs showed that both were underweight, dehydrated and kept in an unhygienic environment for an extended period of time.
Officer Pataky arrested suspect Nicholas Kolmer, a 23-year-old Yonkers resident on Friday. Kolmer was subsequently arraigned for two counts of animal cruelty on Oct. 27 in Yonkers Criminal Court.
