Joseph Steven Buttacavoli, 82, Yonkers Resident

YONKERS, N.Y. – Joseph S. Buttacavoli, of Yonkers, died Saturday, March 30 at Calvary Hospital. He was 82.

He attended Iona College and completed his graduate work at Fordham University. 

He worked in business before becoming a teacher. He taught social studies at Yonkers High School and then helped found an alternative school called Yonkers Prep High School. He taught there for 14 years. He finished his teaching career as a human relations facilitator. This led to a post-retirement career as a classroom management expert. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Karen Buttacavoli; and stepchildren, Daniel Silverman (Zara) and Thomas Cury (Wendy); and a brother, Carmine (Elaine).

He was predeceased by his first wife, Edith.

Cremation will be private. There will be a memorial Mass to celebrate his life on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 670 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers.
