YONKERS, N.Y. - John Anthony Procaccino Sr. of Yonkers died Dec. 6. He was 94.
Procaccino was born June 14, 1920, in Bisaccia, Italy. He came to the United States with his parents and two brothers in 1922 and graduated high school from De Witt Clinton High School, and later enrolled at City College of New York. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served for three and a half years, as a sergeant in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater, working as an airplane sheet metal worker. After a discharge from the service, he re-entered City College and graduated in 1949, with a Bachelor of Science Degree, in civil engineering. He was employed by the New York City Housing Authority for 34 years. He became a professional licensed civil engineer in 1956 and rose to chief of subsurface exploration. After his retirement he worked as a forensic engineer, for Feld, Kaminetzky and Cohen, for 22 years. Also he taught as an associate professor of engineering at Pratt Institute for 35 Years.
Procaccino is survived by his wife, Edith; children, Rosalind, Angelo, and John Jr.; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony and Mario.
Calling hours are Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Flynn Memorial Home Inc., 1652 Central Park Ave., Yonkers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday. Dec. 10 at St. Eugene's R. C. Church.
