Charlotte Lenkowsky, 80, Of Yonkers, Music Teacher, Yonkers Public Schools

YONKERS, N.Y. - Charlotte Lenkowsky of Yonkers died Aug. 2. She was 90.

Lenkowsky was born in Egg Harbor, N.J., to Charles and Mamie Stuckel. She played piano from age three, performed regularly on Philadelphia radio and at area events as a child, and received a college scholarship. After graduation in 1944 from Eastman School of Music, she performed in New York City with Phil Spitalny’s All-Girl Orchestra, Name That Tune TV show, and played at venues like the Vanderbilt, Billy Reed’s, Blue Angel, and Essex House. She taught music in Yonkers public schools for 25 years and was a member of American Federation of Musicians, local 802, and has been the musical director for the Song Pipers singing group for over 20 years.

Lenkowsky is survived by her son, David; sisters-in-law, Pauline Stuckel and Marie Stuckel; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, James Lenkowsky; brothers, Emery “Buzzy” and Fred; and sisters, Gertrude, Martha, Marie “Minnie” and Edna.

Calling hours are Thursday, Aug. 8 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Westchester Funeral Home, Inc., Eastchester. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, New Rochelle.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 95 Eastchester Road, New Rochelle.
