A bomb squad was called after a public works employee discovered a World War II-era mortar in his relative's belongings in Westchester, authorities said. A middle and high school in Westchester were evacuated and searched by authorities after a teacher was emailed a bomb threat, officials announced. Students at both Pelham Middle School and Pelham Memorial High School were evacuated and dismissed early on Monday, Nov. 20 after a teacher received a bomb threat over email, Pelham Superintendent Cheryl H. A woman received a scare when she found a grenade while going through the personal effects of her recently deceased grandfather in Ossining. The Ossining Police Department was alerted about the grenade on Tuesday, June 18, when the woman brought it to headquarters. A written threat forced the evacuation of a Westchester elementary school on Wednesday. The Quaker Ridge Elementary School in Scarsdale was evacuated on Wednesday morning out of precaution, after a threat was found in the building. The nature of the threat was not disclosed by police. An area high school had to be evacuated on Thursday morning after a written threat was found in a bathroom.
