White Plains' DiSanto Homers Twice in Loss

HARRISON, N.Y. -- White Plains had just taken the lead against Eastchester in the District 20 Little League Baseball nine-ten-year-old game on a monumental clout by Matt DiSanto. His grand slam, which left Brentwood Park and landed on Adelphi Ave., was the shot White Plains needed, but it did not knock out Eastchester.

Eastchester answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain the lead and went on to an 11-8 victory in a winners‘ bracket semifinal. Eastchester and Harrison will play in the winners’ bracket final Tuesday, 7 p.m. at Gedney Field in White Plains. Harrison advanced with a 5-2 win over Ardsley. Drew Walpole drove in four runs for Eastchester.

Nick Castiello had two hits and three RBI, Matt Rinaldi collected two hits, an RBI and scored three runs and Christian Flamio had two hits and an RBI. White Plains scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by DiSanto’s grand slam, to take an 8-7 lead.

This would be short-lived. Walpole’s sacrifice fly scored Rinaldi with the equalizer and Flamio’s two-out infield single brought in Nico Lavergetta with the go-ahead run for a 9-8 lead. DiSanto also ripped a two-run homer, in the first inning, and added a single in the seventh. Anthony Burgio singled twice and scored two runs and Michael Attonito singled, drove in a run and scored twice.
