Section 1 Softball Tournament Throws First Pitch

Westchester’s public high school softball teams -- in classes AA, A, B and C according to school enrollment -- begin play Thursday with outbracket games that will determine matchups in upcoming rounds. The Section 1 tournament will continue Friday with first-round play through June 2 and June 4 championship games.

R.C. Ketcham earned the top seed in large school Class AA, Pearl River was ranked No. 1 in Class A and Rye Neck is the top seed in Class B. Class C, the smallest school class by enrollment, goes directly to its championship game with No. 1 Haldane set to meet No. 2 Tuckahoe in the Class C title game on June 2 at Nanuet High School.

Class AA

No. 17 Yorktown at No. 16 Mamaroneck

No. 20 Poughkeepsie at No. 13 Clarkstown South

No. 19 Mahopac at No. 14 Carmel

No. 18 John Jay at No. 15 Suffern

Class A

No. 17 Peekskill at No. 16 Nyack

No. 18 Rye at No. 15 Nanuet

Class B games begin Friday with first-round games. Quaterfinal rounds are scheduled for May 31 and semifinals for June 2.
