WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Two teachers in the White Plains City School District have been recognized by Microsoft for their use of technology in education and named Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts.

Lauren Berrios is a district-wide visual spatial enrichment teacher, and Lisa Fillat is a district-wide math enrichment teacher. They join the nearly 5,000 other educators in the MIE Expert program worldwide.

Every year, Microsoft selects innovative educators to share ideas, try new approaches and learn from each other as a global community dedicated to improving student outcomes through technology.

"Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts are inspiring examples of educators applying new ways of teaching and learning in their classrooms that motivate students and empower them to achieve more," said Anthony Salcito, vice president of Worldwide Education for Microsoft. "We celebrate and support the work they do everyday."

As MIE Experts, these educators build their capacity for using technology in both the classroom to improve student learning, advise Microsoft and educational institutions on how to integrate technology in educationally sound ways, and be an advocate at conferences, events and training for how Microsoft technology can improve learning.

Both teachers are also trainers through the district's technology institute, educating staff members on methods and trends in educational technology.

"The more I learn, the more I realize the difference this technology can make, not only within my classes, but my entire district, New York State, the country and even the world," Fillat wrote in her application to Microsoft.
