This story has been updated.

Former FBI Director and Hudson Valley native James Comey has been invited to testify before Congress about notes from one-on-one meetings with President Donald Trump prior to his firing.

Chaffetz asked Comey to testify before a public session at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24.

House oversight committee chairman Jason Chaffetz has also set a deadline for the same date, May 24, for acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe to disclose documents involving the recently ousted FBI Director and Trump.

Comey has not yet confirmed he will be able to attend at that day and time.

Chaffetz's invitation came just hours before former FBI Director Robert Mueller was named special counsel in the investigation of possible collusion between Trump campaign staffers and Russia. It is unclear if Mueller's appointment will affect Comey's decision on whether or not to appear before Congress.

Chaffetz has vowed to issue subpoenas regarding communications between Trump and Comey. Trump has come under fire recently after dismissing Comey amid an investigation into the president’s ties, communications, and potential informational links to Russia. According to multiple media reports, Trump, in a one-on-one conversation, asked Comey to end his investigation of former national security advisor Michael Flynn shortly before he fired Comey.

In a letter to McCabe , Chaffetz cites a New York Times report that describes a conversation “in which the President referenced the FBI investigation of former National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and said to Comey, ‘I hope you can let this go.’”

“According to the report, Comes created similar memos - including some that are classified - about every phone call and meeting that he had with the president. If true, these memoranda raise questions as to whether the president attempted to influence or impede the FBI’s investigation as it relates to (Flynn).”

Chaffetz said “let’s see how real these memos are” in a statement to the Washington Post. He set a May 24 deadline for the internal documents to be delivered to the House committee.

“Officially noticed a hearing for next Wed at 9:30am ET with former FBI Dir Comey. But I still need to speak with him…evidently has a new #” (sic) the Congressman posted on Twitter on Wednesday.

Comey lived in Yonkers until he was a teenager before his family moved to Allendale, N.J., where he graduated High School. He is the grandson of longtime Yonkers police officer - and former Police Commissioner William Comey and served as a U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York before being chosen by then President Barack Obama to head the FBI in 2013 on a 10-year appointment.

Comey also served as a deputy attorney general from December 2003 through August 2005 under President George W. Bush.

Trump, who owns the $19 million Seven Spring estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
