An unsafe lane change on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Westchester led to the seizure of a dozen pounds of marijuana from a driver in Harrison.

Randolph, Mass. resident Tan Van Nguyen, 55, was driving northbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway near North Street in Harrison on Wednesday, Aug. 15, when he was suddenly veered from the left lane into the right lane, forcing a second motorist to slam on the brakes to avoid crashing.

Westchester County Police detectives in the area saw the near collision and stopped Nguyen's Lexus sedan.

While speaking with Nguyen, the detectives said they detected a strong odor of marijuana that was coming from the vehicle.

A Westchester County Police canine was called to the scene and Kaya indicated that there were drugs in the trunk of the car. Further investigation found a cardboard box that had 10 shrink-wrapped bags that had marijuana in them, totaling in more than 12 pounds in weight.

Nguyen was arrested and charged with criminal possession of marijuana, a felony. He was arraigned in Harrison Town Court the day after his arrest and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of bail. He is due back in court at a later date to answer the charge.
