Edgar Sands, 95, Of White Plains, WWII Veteran, Owned Max Van Pels, Inc.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Edgar Sands of White Plains died Monday, Oct. 14. He was 95.

Sands was born in Hamburg, Germany, he came to the U.S. in 1938. After serving in the United States Army in World War II, he moved to White Plains in 1951. For 67 years, he was a spice importer and became president of the company, Max Van Pels, Inc. in 1971 and continued to work until his passing.

Sands is survived by his grandchildren, Jeffrey Baker (Sherry) and Michael Baker, Jake and Zachary Sands and Cara Forray; two great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Elane Sands. He was predeceased by his wife, Gabrielle; daughter, Marjorie; and son, Edward.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave. at South Broadway, White Plains. Interment will be in the Sharon Gardens Cemetery.
