Former New York Commissioner Expected To Be Named Secretary Of Education

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former New York State Education Commissioner John King is expected to become U.S. Department of Education Secretary following Arne Duncan's announcement that he will stepping down at the end of the year, according to the Chicago Tribune.

King will be acting secretary of education until President Obama's term ends in January, 2017, the Tribune reported.

Duncan has served as education secretary since the beginning of the Obama administration in 2008, the longest serving secretary in history.

In an email sent to his staff, Duncan noted the constant travel between his home of Chicago and Washington was the largest factor in leaving the post early, according to reports.
