6 Fake Credit Cards Found on Man in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A Bronx man was caught with six forged credit cards and a list of strangers’ credit card numbers in his pants pocket Monday.

Officers were called to the Westchester Mall's Apple store Monday evening after Lamar Melhado, 22, attempted to buy a $499.99 iPad with a credit card Apple staff thought was fake.

Melhado left the store around 8:40 p.m. when his transaction failed. Officers met him outside Apple where police said they found three forged Master Cards and three forged Visa credit cards on him.

Police reports indicate that all six cards contained active credit card numbers ripped off of others’ credit cards. Two of the cards had Lamar Melhado printed on them. The other four had Laqueisha Chavers etched on them.

Officers said they then found a multi-paged list of names and credit card numbers in Melhado’s back pants pocket.

Melhado was arrested and brought to headquarters. He told detectives he knew the cards were fake and had stolen numbers, but was driven to use them because he was unemployed and needed money.

He was charged with six counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and six counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, also a felony.
