Retired White Plains Court Officer Dunn Dies at 80

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Matthew "Jackie" Dunn, a devoted public serviceman in Katonah, died on Oct. 15 at Sharon Health Care Center in Sharon, Conn. He was 80. 

A former court officer at Westchester County Courthouse in White Plains, Dunn was born on Jul. 30, 1931 in Bronx, N.Y. to John A. and Nora Dunn. After moving to Yorktown when he was 15, he graduated from Yorktown High School. He later became a member of the Yorktown Fire Department.

Dunn served with the Marine Corps during the Korean War and retired from the Air National Guard Reserves after serving for 20 years. He joined the Westchester County Sheriff's Department in 1970 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1975.

In 1979, Dunn became a court officer for the Westchester County Courthouse until his retirement in 1990.

Dunn is survived by his sons John Dunn of Somers, Timothy Dunn of Danbury, Conn. and Matthew Dunn with wife Holly of Bedford, his daughter Helen Piebes with husband Arthur, his sister Theresa Foca of Pleasantville and four grandchildren.

Callings hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesdau ay St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Katonah, burial following at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Somers.
