Meatballs can be served as an appetizer or as a main dish, and they can be made with beef, lamb, or turkey. One restaurant in New York City even offers 54 different styles of meatballs, according to National Day Calendar.

Some restaurants will offer a free side to celebrate the day. Others celebrate by donating time or money to homeless shelters.
