WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains Library will host a showcase of modern and contemporary African art in "Harlem Fine Arts Show Comes To White Plains" and will honor Westchester philanthropists James W. Cobb and Dr. Mary Jane Cobb for their volunteerism and philanthropy on Thursday, Feb. 27.
James Cobb is the chairman of the Westchester Region NAACP ACT-SO Coalition. Professionally, he is a mechanical engineer and for many years was the chief executive officer of Pilot Machine Designers in Norwalk, Conn. He also served in the army during the Korean War.
He is scholarship chairman of the White Plains/New Rochelle Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and is a member of the White Plains Coalition for Police Reform, in addition to many other positions he holds.
Mary Cobb is a retired physician, who beyond her family practice, served for many years as the director of Women and Youth Services at the Westchester County Department of Health.
She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Westchester Alumnae Chapter, in addition to many other accomplishments.
This year's theme is "Artists and Authors." Those who attend will have an opportunity to view and purchase works by youth and professional artists such as Sarah Bracey White, author of "Primary Lessons" and Flo Anthony, author of "Deadly Stuff Players."
"The Harlem Fine Arts Show Comes to White Plains" is presented by the City of White Plains Youth Bureau and the Westchester Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the White Plains Library.
Tickets to the event are $25 and can be purchased at City of White Plains Youth Bureau, 11 Amherst Place, White Plains on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon through 7:30 pm.
