After a one-year absence from Playland Amusement Park due to Hurricane Sandy, Scared by the Sound Haunted House is back for its 15th season complete with its long-beloved Crypt Walk, Haunted Wine Cellar and Library along with some new attractions. The event runs weekends from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays from Oct. 4 to Nov. 1.
Due to the high level of realism, the event is not recommended for children under 10 nor is it advised for pregnant women or persons with heart or medical conditions.
Tickets are $16 and are available online as well as at the onsite event ticket booth located at the Playland Fountain Plaza on nights of the event.
Another area favorite: The Haunt at Rocky Ledge, now in its fifth year in North White Plains. Here, two haunted houses are filled with ghouls and goblins jumping out of shadows. There's also a haunted cornfield. The event runs from Oct. 10 to Oct. 26 (weekends only).
Tickets are $18 per person and, as with Scared by the Sound, is not advised for those under 10. The venue is open on weekends from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays; from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. The address is 1402 Old Orchard St. though you're advised to use 1446 on GPS. See the website for details.
