The Pamplemousse Project, located in White Plains at 124 Mamaroneck Ave. (Route 125), and named after a nickname for the owners' dog, held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening on Tuesday, Dec. 13, according to an announcement by the business.
The coffee shop was started when owners Lydia and Gary Kris decided to combine their desire to start a business with their love of volunteering and fundraising money for their community.
To this end, the business will donate all net profits to local charities that focus on helping the hungry, ending homelessness, education, and the arts. To receive money, organizations just have to fill out an application for one-time grants on The Pamplemousse Project's website and explain what they would use the money for, according to owner Lydia Kris.
The eatery also plans to let regular customers vote on which organizations should receive the donations, Kris said.
The new coffee shop serves a variety of hot and cold drinks including frappes, iced refresher drinks, tea, lemonades, chai, all types of espresso drinks, and brewed coffee. Baked goods such as muffins and scones are also available, in addition to a variety of candy from the business's "candy wall."
