Man From Region Nabbed For DWI After Almost Hitting Deputy Sheriff, Police Say State Troopers arrested a town of Hudson Valley man for allegedly driving while intoxicated after he almost struck a deputy sheriff who was assisting a disabled tractor-trailer at the time. The incident occurred in Orange County around 9:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11 in Campbell Hall a hamlet of Hamptonburgh. Road Closure Alert: Busy Hudson Valley Roadway To Undergo Culvert Replacement Motorists will want to make note that a busy Hudson Valley roadway will be closed for more than a month for construction upgrades. Route 208 in Orange County in the town of Hamptonburgh will be closed between Forrester Road and Station Road from Monday, July 10 through Sunday, Aug. 20 for culvert replacement, according to the state Department of Transportation. Drivers should follow the posted detour using Route 207 and Maybrook Road as an alternate. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

Though the state continues to contain the virus, there was an uptick in the number of cases in Ulster and Orange counties reported this week. In Ulster County, there were 37 new cases reported on Thursday, July 30 out of 967 people tested, bringing the infection rate up to 3.8 percent. In Orange County, 2,123 people were tested, with 38 (1.8 percent) testing positive. No other county in the mid-Hudson Valley region had an infection rate above 1.2 percent. Man, Woman Killed When Car Crashes Into Tree In Area A man ad woman were both killed when a car crashed into a tree in the area. It happened on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 6:45 a.m. in Orange County, state police said. Upon arrival at the crash scene on Route 208 in the town of Hamptonburgh, troopers observed a 2005 Dodge Neon off the roadway and against a tree on the eastern shoulder.  The operator of the vehicle, Holmes B. Shindon,  21, of Montgomery, and his passenger, Alexis Lewis, 20, of Chester, were both trapped inside the vehicle. Both were declared dead at the scene.
