Deli Shooting: ‘Ruthless’ Killer Who Gunned Down Owner, Customer At Copiague Business Sentenced
A gunman who opened fire on several people inside a Long Island deli, killing its owner and another customer, will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Dionicio Calderon, age 65, of Copiague, was sentenced to 75 years to life in prison in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, March 16. It followed his jury conviction for murder and other charges stemming from a shooting inside the La Vaquita deli in Copiague, on Great Neck Road, in December 2020.

Long Island Man Convicted in Fatal 2018 Shooting
A Long Island man has been convicted of murdering a 30-year-old acquaintance in a 2018 daytime shooting, the District Attorney announced.
Following a nearly two-week trial, Jamik Cannon, age 28, of Hempstead, was convicted by a jury for his role in the fatal shooting of Demetrius Winfield in October 2018.
Specifically, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said that Cannon was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Cannon’s trial began on Monday, May 3, and the conviction was announced on Friday, May 14.
