New Update: Worker Killed In Trench Collapse At Smithtown Home This story has been updated. A worker has died following a trench collapse at a home on Long Island. Emergency crews were called at around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 for a collapse at a property in Smithtown, located in the village of Head of the Harbor on Piper Lane. Suffolk County Police said an employee with Copiague-based Darius Masonry was installing cesspool rings at the home when he entered the hole to level the ring.  While he was down in the hole, the excavated dirt collapsed on top of him, burying him in approximately ten feet of soil.
