Two New York residents are among five people who have been charged with various crimes related to a transnational repression scheme orchestrated on behalf of the Chinese government, federal authorities announced.

Ex-Suffolk DA Spota, Aide Sentenced For Corruption
Two former high-ranking Suffolk County government officials have been sentenced to jail following a six-week federal jury trial.
Former Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas J. Spota and Christopher McPartland, his former anti-corruption aide were each sentenced Tuesday, Aug. 10, by US District Judge Joan M. Azrack, to five years in prison.
Additionally, Spota, age 79, of Mount Sinai, was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine.

A New York City police officer arrested earlier this month in connection with a murder-for-hire plot to off her estranged husband and her "Sugar Daddy" boyfriend's daughter was indicted Thursday, May 30, by a grand jury.
Valerie Cincinelli, 34, of Oceanside, was charged with two counts of murder for hire and one count of obstruction of justice, according to John Marzullii, public information officer for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Former Mangano Top Aide Admits To Obstructing Justice
A former top aide to Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has admitted to lying to federal investigators in an effort to cover up a $5,000 cash payment he received from a county contractor.
Rob Walker, 43, a former chief deputy to Mangano, pleaded guilty in federal court in Central Islip on Wednesday, May 29, to one count of obstruction of justice. He is expected to receive less than two years in prison.
In court, Walker admitted to meeting with an informant working with the government and asked him not to disclose a $5,000 payment that he received in 2014.
