Weeks-Long Road Closures Scheduled On Parkway On Long Island There will be lane closures on a busy Long Island roadway for several weeks as crews begin work on a repaving project. In Nassau County, the New York State Department of Transportation announced that there will be overnight closures of the northbound Meadowbrook State Parkway in the Town of Hempstead between Bay Parkway and Merrick Road (Exit M9). Helicopter Pilot Makes Emergency Landing Off Long Island Coast A privately-owned helicopter made an emergency landing off the Long Island coast. The incident took place around 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, near Wantagh when the 64-year-old pilot had to ditch the aircraft due to weather conditions at North Meadow Island in the area of the Loop Parkway, said the Nassau County Police. Nassau County Police Marine 4 was able to locate the victim and with the assistance of the Merrick Fire Department and transported the pilot to the Jones Beach Coast Guard station, police said.
