A potent storm system accompanying a cold front is bringing thunderstorms with drenching downpours to the region. Some of the storms may be heavy, with 1- to 2-inch per-hour rainfall rates possible in already saturated areas during the day on Wednesday, Sept. 13, the National Weather Service said. A powerful, multiple-hazard storm will sweep through the Northeast, with the main impact on this region being strong, gusty winds that could cause power outages. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for a large portion of the Northeast. It's in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday, July 17. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour are the main threat with any thunderstorm that becomes severe, the National Weather Service said in issuing the watch. Massive Storm Brings Heavy Rain, Damaging Wind Gusts, Possible Tornadoes To Region
A powerful storm with damaging wind gusts will make for a soaking start to the first workweek after Thanksgiving. The storm will arrive Monday morning, Nov. 30, and continue through the early evening. Showers began moving from west to east at around 7 a.m. Monday.
